Abstract
Ziziphus talanai is one of the species under Rhamnaceae family, known in tropical regions and it is traditionally used as anti-diabetic, analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic. The rapid increasing demand for natural remedies has shifted for the people or the society to patronize natural antifungal and antioxidant agents. The aim of the study was to evaluate the leaves and barks of Z. talanai of its phytochemical screening, antifungal and antioxidant properties. Thin Layer Chromatography was performed to determine the presence of different bioactive compounds and revealed that the bark was rich in flavonoids, saponins, steroids, phenols, tannins, essentials oils and sugars, coumarine and anthranoids. The antioxidant property was determined by the DPPH assay, it was found out that ethanol and methanol extracts could scavenge free radicals. Antifungal activity was observe in Aspergillus niger whereas no inhibition activity was observe in Candida albicans.
