ABSTRACT
This study investigates the morphological and anatomical features of the Ziziphus talanai leaf that were collected from three different areas in Mabalacat City, Pampanga. The leaves were analyzed for their physical characteristics and categorized based on the Manual of Leaf Architecture. Four vein orders were identified on Z. talanai leaf. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the morphoanatomical features of Z. talanai leaf wherein the tetra-anomocytic stomata was identified and measured. Geometric morphometric analysis visualized the mean shape of juvenile and adult Z. talanai leaf through thin plate splines, and revealed shape variations among the samples and indicated regions of the leaf that expand and compress from the mean shape. 26 landmarks were placed on the leaf samples. This comprehensive morphological study of Z. talanai leaf contributes to the understanding of their functions and adaptations. This study also highlights the significance of using traditional morphological assessment along with advanced techniques for a thorough investigation of plant structures.
