Abstract

This study generally aimed to evaluate the anti-teratogenic potential of leaves of Balakat tree to the reproductive system of ICR mice. Specially, it sought to find out the Significant effect of 95% of ethanol leaf extract of Balakat tree on the reproductive performance of female ICR mice on following parameters in fertility index, gestation index, implantation index and number of dead implants and significant effect of the ethanol leaf extract on the teratogenic potential of tetracycline on the reproductive performance of female TCR mice when administered combination with tetracycline to male ICR mice. The study made used of the experimental method of Complete Randomized Design, research utilizing the Dominant Lethal Test (DTL) by Bateman. The data gathered were statistically validated using the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of Complete Randomized Design (CRD). The difference among the treatments was analyzed through Tukey’s Multiple Comparison Test. Result of the study showed that the ethanol leaf extract of Balakat tree (Ziziphus talanai) did not cause significant effects in the reproduction system of ICR mice. It did not exhibit lethality, however, when given in combination with tetracycline it significantly reduced the teratogenic potential teratogenic. of tetracycline, hence, anti-teratogenic
