ABSTRACT
This study deals with the evaluation of the phytochemical, antifungal and antioxidant of root extract of balakat tree (Ziziphus talanai) using different solvent system. Phytochemical analysis was done using thin layer chromatography (TLC). Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, akaloids, anthranoids, coumarines, phenols, saponins, steroids, essential oils, higher alcohol and sugars. Antifungal test utilized Aspergillus niger and the Candida albicans. The roots extract of balakat tree possess a mild antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger with a zone of inhibition of 10mm whereas no inhibitory activity was observed in Candida albicans. Antioxidant potential of Z. talanai was assessed by the DPPH radical scavenging assay. It was found out that roost of Ziziphus talanai have antioxidant activity.
